A year after the 250th, Patriots Day plans take shape
The 251st anniversary of the start of the American Revolution could still draw a hefty crowd next month.

It probably won’t be as big as last year’s, but the 251st anniversary of the start of the American Revolution could still draw a hefty crowd this month.
A normal Patriots Day parade attracts roughly 10,000 attendees. Officials are expecting “a little more than that,” Tourism Manager Beth Williams said at a recent meeting with business leaders, “but nowhere near what we saw” in 2025.
As many as 75,000 people showed up for Concord250. Although attention has shifted to the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, Acton organizers are finalizing their slate of events:
- Observances kick off April 11 at 1 p.m. with the town’s Meriam’s Corner Exercise, marking a key skirmish in the 1775 British retreat from Acton.
- The Patriots Ball starts at 7 p.m. that same day at the Acton Armory.
- April 17 brings the Patriot Vigil at North Bridge, honoring the 122 people who died on the revolution’s first day.
- Minute Man National Historical Park is running programs April 18.
- The traditional Dawn Salute starts at 5:45 a.m. at North Bridge on April 19. Other events follow throughout the day.
- The schedule culminates on April 20 when Acton’s parade will start snaking through town at 9 a.m. A downtown block party starts immediately afterward.
This year’s parade reverts to its traditional route through Acton Center.
Gone are last year’s widespread road closures. Police will block off roads near the parade route, and a small strip of Main Street will stay closed for the block party, but most roadways should reopen by 11:30 a.m., officials say.
Dancing, food trucks, and beer
The Concord250 Corp. is planning the Patriots Ball, replete with a live band, dancing, and a late-night march to Acton Center. Paused for several years, the event sold out its revival last year.
“To a lot of people who grew up in Acton,” John Hickling told The Acton Bridge, “it’s a big deal.”
Hickling was part of 2025 event planning and helped organize a military flyover.
He kept in touch with the pilots and said they wanted to return this year, but some are in the Middle East due to the hostilities with Iran.
“I haven’t 100% given up,” Hickling said when asked about a 2026 reprise, but he’s “not optimistic.”
The parade on April 20 will pause for a “condensed” ceremony at North Bridge, compared with last year, Public Ceremonies and Celebrations Committee Chair Holly Legault said.
As for the block party, which debuted in 2025, planned offerings include live music, a beer garden at Wright Tavern, art activities, and additional performances at 51 Walden.
Officials plan to have food trucks hawking everything from whoopie pies to fried pickles.
