Annie Fay Holt, 101

Annie Fay Holt, a loving mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother, left us on May 27, 2023, at the age of 101.

Annie was born in Laconia, New Hampshire on March 21,1922 the daughter of the late Victor and Blanche (Dolloff) Rand. Upon graduating from Laconia High School, she enlisted in the WAVES, or Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service, a branch of female reservists in the United States Navy, where she served as a Radioman 3rd class. While serving in the Navy, she married her high school sweetheart, George Fay, who was also serving in the Navy as a lieutenant. After the war ended, George and Annie settled in Wakefield, Massachusetts, where they raised two sons.

Annie earned a bachelor’s degree from Salem State University and a master’s degree from Tufts University before beginning a career in teaching. She taught in the Lexington school system for many years. After George died, she moved to Acton, where she became very active with the West Acton Union Church. She met John Holt in Acton, and they were married in 1980.

Annie and John raised quarter horses together in Groton and Barrington, New Hampshire, before returning to Acton in 1994. Annie and John were valued members of the West Acton Union Church congregation and particularly enjoyed their involvement in Sunday Fellowship, a community for adults of all abilities. Following John’s death, Annie continued to be active member in the Acton community, a frequent host to friends and family, a world traveler, and a volunteer with the Acton Women’s Club. An avid reader, swimmer, and faithful letter writer, Annie lived independently until she reached 100, a longtime goal. For this milestone, Annie was celebrated by family, friends, neighbors, church members, and even former students from decades past.

Annie is survived by her sister, Marilyn Healy, her sons Park Fay, Steven Fay, and Wayne Holt, eleven grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren.

Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Annie on Sunday, June 18, 2023, 12:00 PM at the West Acton Union Church, 1317 Main Street, Acton, Massachusetts.

Acton’s Town Flag will fly at half-staff in honor or Annie’s faithful military service.
