A man accused of breaking into a Acton ATM is now the subject of a default warrant after he failed to appear in court.

Alexander Hernandez Torrealba, 23, of Fairfield, Ohio, did not attend a scheduled pretrial hearing in Acton District Court on July 20. His attorney, Tina Marie Ohlson, told the judge she had not heard from him since he was released from custody after posting his $500 cash bail. The judge then issued a default warrant for his arrest.

Hernandez was arrested June 21 after Acton police responded to a report of two masked people attempting to break into the ATM at Cambridge Savings Bank, 202 Sudbury Road, shortly before 3 a.m.

A caller reported one person acting as a lookout while the other worked on the machine. Police said Hernandez fled on foot from the nearby Umbrella Arts Center parking lot before officers caught him.

Investigators allege the suspects attached a skimming device to the ATM and used a Raspberry Pi device to compromise the machine. Police said they recovered forged checks, burglary tools, multiple cellphones, and other evidence from Hernandez and a vehicle parked nearby. A second suspect was not located.

Hernandez is charged with breaking into a repository, possession of burglarious instruments, resisting arrest, possession of a skimming device, and forgery of a check.

The investigation remains ongoing.
