Baker Avenue culvert repairs to create more traffic delays
A town contractor will be working on Baker just north of Main Street; officials hope to wrap up construction on December 23.

The coming weeks could include more traffic headaches for West Acton drivers as crews start a Baker Avenue culvert repair project.
A town contractor will be working on Baker just north of Main Street. Crews arrived last week. Officials hope to wrap up construction on December 23.
Town staff warned that “traffic delays are anticipated” as heavy equipment rumbles around the area. There’s no on-street parking while the project continues, but officials said “access to all properties will be maintained.”

Crews made temporary repairs last year after the existing culvert failed. The town is funding a longer-term fix with $800,000 in federal American Rescue Plan Act funds.
Town Manager Kerry Lafleur said in a recent project update that the work is “critical to maintaining roadway safety and improving flood resilience.”
Drivers have already been tapping the brakes near Baker and Main in recent weeks while National Grid crews work on a gas line replacement. Although that work should be finishing soon, according to National Grid spokesperson Bob Kievra, the town is preparing to redesign the entire intersection over the next year.
Kievra wrote in an email to The Acton Bridge that a separate gas regulator replacement that could bring more construction to the area “remains on hold while we assess next steps.”
