Charles W. Barker

Charles W. Barker, of Acton, passed away at Emerson Hospital on May 29, 2025, following a long illness. He was 82.

Born on March 12, 1943, he was the son of the late George and Marynette (Knipmeyer) Barker. After attending Acton public schools, Charlie studied for two years at Babson College. He left school early to join the National Guard, which he served for nearly 25 years.

During his professional life, Charlie specialized in photography development and processing. He did photo work for the Boston Public Library, the Museum School, and the Historical Society of Boston, along with managing a photo and film plant for Digital Equipment and other companies.

Charlie enjoyed his summer home on serene Crystal Lake in Frankfort, Michigan. The true “loves of his life” were the many lucky golden retrievers he rescued and spoiled over the years. He also enjoyed cooking in his spare time.

He was a proud Concordian and a longtime member of the Acton Independent Battery, along with his brother and father. During his membership with the Battery, which spanned more than 50 years, he was steadfast in his support of the organization, which included several years serving as treasurer. Charlie was a devoted volunteer at Emerson Hospital and a member of First Parish in Acton.

He is survived by one brother, Bruce Barker and his wife Susan of Acton; and his niece Leah Anne (Barker) Koehler-Rice and her husband Leland of Acton.

Family and friends will gather for visiting hours on Friday, June 13, from 4-6 p.m. at the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street. Charlie’s graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 14, at 11 a.m. in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Bedford Street.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Acton Independent Battery, P.O. Box 1804, Acton, MA 01742, or Yankee Golden Retriever Rescue, 110 Chapin Road, Hudson, MA 01749.

Arrangements are entrusted to Dee Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Acton.  To share a remembrance or to offer a condolence on Charlie’s tribute page, visit DeeFuneralHome.com.
