Acton Bridge contributing photographer Stephen Beyer recently took an evening kayak trip on the Acton River with friends and shared these photos with us.

“We launched at Lowell Road and took a slow paddle downstream through Great Meadows to October Farm [Riverfront],” he wrote. “We enjoyed a few sightings along the way, but were most excited about a great horned owl that we were lucky to catch as it landed on a limb high above the riverbank. It was about 40 minutes before sunset, and [the owl was] silhouetted against the relatively bright sky behind it, but we all watched it through our binoculars, looking down upon us. We were thrilled.”

Stephen also saw killdeer, a Muscovy duck, a great blue heron, and “a couple of beavers” in his twilight travels.
