Acton Historical Commission to host 2023 Preservation Awards

How would you define Acton character? While there are multiple answers to this, surely many would agree that Acton’s character derives in part from the physical beauty of its historic homes and buildings, many of which have been preserved through the efforts of conscientious citizens. To recognize these achievements, the Acton Historical Commission is pleased to host the 2023 Preservation Awards on Thursday, May 25 at the Goodwin Forum of the Acton Free Public Library from 6:30-8 p.m.

The preservation awards program, launched in 2016, seeks to honor property owners, architects, contractors, local organizations, and individuals for their efforts to maintain and enhance the architectural, historical and cultural heritage of Acton. Awards will be presented in six categories: sensitive addition/alteration; adaptive reuse; appropriate new construction; proper rehabilitation/restoration; landscape preservation and life achievement/preservationist of the year.

Past honorees have included Trinity Episcopal Church, Acton Academy, and the Edward Emerson Studio at a private Lowell Road home. For more information on past honorees and this year’s submissions, please see the Acton Historical Commission webpage https://www.concordma.gov/1144/Preservation-Awards.

All are welcome and encouraged to attend and celebrate preservation efforts in Acton.
