Habits shape our lives and well-being in powerful ways. Are you in the habit of reading this newspaper? Do you peruse the print edition from cover to cover? Or visit our website daily for our breaking news? Perhaps you check our social media feeds, especially on Sports Saturday.
Concordians have been in the habit of reading local newspapers since 1816, when the Middlesex Gazette set up shop on the Milldam, displacing Boston circulars as a primary source of Acton news. Many good things happen here, along with some unsettling things, and our job is to tell you all about them. It’s about time we celebrated! We’re proud to be a founding newsroom supporting the first-ever Local News Day.

Whether it’s election coverage, local theater features, or the police log relaying a resident’s complaint about a soda can left downtown, it costs money to produce comprehensive news coverage. Our non-profit business model recognizes that advertising revenue alone won’t cover our costs. We rely on your donations for most of our operating expenses, because we are committed to delivering a print and digital newspaper free of charge.
Reader contributions enable us to pay our reporters, editors, illustrators, and photographers; print and distribute each issue; maintain our website; and connect with the community through outreach and events.
We believe every Concordian should have access to trustworthy local news without paying for a subscription.
We seek your support because our well-being, our community, and our democracy work best when we all have access to accurate, comprehensive information.
One good habit is giving an annual donation to support a year of newsgathering. We’re happy to report that 19% of Acton households financially support the newspaper, up from 9% in 2023. Is yours one of them?
See if your employer will match your contribution and double your impact. Consider a yearly gift on our birthday in October or during our fall or spring campaigns. Become a recurring donor, giving monthly, which enables us to better plan our cash flow. Give today to celebrate the first-ever Local News Day.
