Former Chief Financial Officer Anthony Ansaldi is suing the town of Acton and Town Manager Kerry Lafleur for more than $1.3 million in connection with his firing this year.

The civil complaint follows a whistleblower notice filed this summer and reiterates allegations of “illegal, unethical, and improper financial practices” in town government.

Ansaldi’s complaint, filed Wednesday in Middlesex Superior Court, claims the town and Lafleur “fabricated performance concerns” before formally ousting him in September.

Town Communications Manager Donna McIntosh told The Acton Bridge that officials are “aware of reports regarding a lawsuit filed by Anthony Ansaldi” but hadn’t been formally served with the complaint as of Thursday evening.

The lawsuit alleges that Ansaldi suffered “substantial emotional and economic harm, including loss of wages and benefits.”

He claims he was blamed for a series of problems — including budget errors and management failures — but says many of those issues predated his arrival.

Asked this week about a new draft audit report that found issues with financial reporting from the 2024 fiscal year, Lafleur told The Bridge, in part, “The work of the Finance Department is 100% the responsibility of the chief financial officer.”

Ansaldi is seeking a jury trial.

In addition to $75,000 in lost wages, Ansaldi’s attorney, Timothy Burke, confirmed in a text message to The Bridge that Ansaldi has itemized $750,000 in reasonably anticipated lost wages and $500,000 in emotional distress damages.
