As we approach the heart of our fall campaign, we are so grateful for the many generous donations that Concordians have made this past month to our newspaper, as well as for the enthusiastic messages we have received from readers. A few highlights:

  • “Thank you for providing our community with an excellent newspaper!!! We enjoy reading each issue cover to cover.”
  • “Well beyond the pleasure [The Acton Bridge] brings us personally is the benefit to the town — the level of civic engagement that The Bridge has enabled. We are a better town — a more “Acton” Acton — because of The Bridge, and we deeply appreciate the work of the staff and board.”
  • “Thank you for keeping us informed every week, which is especially important for the few of us who don’t have computers!”

We hope that you agree, and for those of you who have not yet had a chance to pitch in, we encourage you to make a tax-deductible contribution to support our work. Acton’s not-for-profit newspaper is funded entirely by paid advertising and by donations from our readers. Last month’s $35,000 challenge grant is still available to double first-time, increased, or lapsed donations, so please jump in while the challenge has not yet been met.

Some ask, “How much should I give?” Our answer is simple: Only you know your circumstances and the amount that will make you feel good about supporting local journalism. All gifts, in any amount, are important to us.

Happily, we are well on the way to meeting our $500,000 goal, but we will need each of you who value the paper and remember the “news desert” Acton was in before we launched in October 2022 to find a level of support that works for you, that you can repeat year after year.

As with last year’s campaign, in our Valentine’s Day issue this coming February, we will thank every donor by name and will give special recognition to those who support us at the $500, $1,000, $5,000 and $10,000 levels. These gifts are really for the community, covering the cost of delivering the paper to individual households. We are deeply grateful for your gift, in whatever amount is appropriate to you. Thank you for your support.
