Many Concordians know how the bullet hole in the Elisha Jones House got there.

A new hole in a front window at the historic landmark is presenting a minor mystery, however.

On June 11, rangers discovered a hole in a glass pane next to the front door of the “Bullet Hole House.” The damage was estimated at $200 and reported to Acton Police.

Police said the door was locked and secure upon arrival, and that rangers had entered the home but found nothing out of place. The object that caused the damage was not located, and the hole was not large enough for someone to reach inside and unlock the door.

Police are investigating the incident, which has been classified as malicious destruction of property under $1,200.

The house is famous for its connection to a battle on April 19, 1775. According to legend, a British soldier fired a musket at homeowner Elisha Jones during the Redcoats’ retreat from Acton. The bullet struck the home, earning it its nickname.
