Italian restaurant to occupy former Chang An space

A new Italian restaurant is preparing to serve everything from pasta to seafood in Thoreau Depot.

Dario’s Acton is on track to open this summer, according to owner Elmer Melendez. It will occupy the space at 10 Acton Crossing that housed the Chang An restaurant until its closure in 2023.

Melendez, who also owns Bandoleros Mexican Grill in Acton, appeared before the Select Board on February 10 to secure a liquor license for Dario’s. Select Board members approved the permit and praised Melendez’s work.

“We’re very grateful for what you’re bringing into our town as far as restaurants,” said chair Mary Hartman.

Dario’s has a location in Fitchburg. Melendez said his new 186-seat Acton restaurant will have the same concept.

Melendez’s career spans decades and includes several ventures outside Acton. He said Bandoleros has been successful since its opening last year and that he’s excited to expand his footprint.

“Acton has been very good with us,” he said.
