Dear Reader,

Acton Bridge CEO Maile Hulihan.

We’re celebrating our third birthday! It may seem surprising that we’re still so new, since we’ve become a regular part of your week. Maybe you look forward to reading us every Friday with an afternoon cup of coffee (or an evening glass of wine). You might have scrolled through our website or social media feeds before reading this letter.

It feels good knowing what’s going on in Acton, doesn’t it? We have a small staff, and we stay busy covering our vibrant and surprisingly newsy town.

This week, we report that spending for the Ellen Garrison Building at Acton Middle School came in $7 million under cost projections. Kicks for Cancer, the big sports fundraiser, broke $1 million in donations. Discover West Acton Day celebrated the village, and neighbors are pushing for a pocket park in an incipient subdivision. And did you know five sets of sisters are key contributors to the CCHS field hockey teams’ impressive seasons?

We strive to hold public officials accountable, but it’s also encouraging to see neighbors and town officials working together toward shared goals. This week, we feature Upland Road residents who are taking action on traffic issues by posting lawn signs that urge drivers to Slow Down! They teamed up with Mothers Out Front, a local parent group focused on making streets safer for everyone. Relatedly, on October 28, the Public Works Department will host a forum to discuss how $27.5 million in voter-approved borrowing could bolster road improvements and safety over the next five years.

Our team keeps you informed with print, digital, and visual reporting, plus live coverage of big events like elections and the 250th celebrations. We recently received two prestigious awards from the New England Newspaper & Press Association. One honored our yearlong multimedia project on how Acton prepared for the 250th anniversary of the start of the American Revolution. I was also recognized for my leadership in building this startup newspaper — with you.

How are we doing? Are we covering your priorities? What stories have we missed? Please let us know via a quick reader survey — we’ll enter you for a chance at winning a $50 gift certificate from a Acton business of your choice.

Sharing your feedback would be a wonderful way to help us celebrate our third birthday. Thank you for your support.

Kind Regards,

Maile Hulihan, CEO
The Acton Bridge
