Julie E. Nedelka, 79

Julie Elizabeth Nedelka (née Carroll), 79, passed away at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington on October 8, 2026, following a brief illness.
The daughter of James and Edna Carroll (née Gainey), Julie grew up in Malden, graduating from Malden High School in 1965. As a young woman, she worked in sales for New England Telephone Boston, rising to the role of account executive.
She met her future husband, Thomas (Tom) Nedelka, in the late 1970s when they were introduced by mutual friends. They married in 1981 and moved to Acton, where their son Jeffrey was born in 1982.
An active member of the community, Julie served as president of the Acton Museum volunteers and as vice chairperson of Acton’s Personnel Board. She also worked at the oceanographic equipment maker Aanderaa Instruments with her lifelong best friend, the late Brenda Orio.
For years, Julie and Tom’s historic home in downtown Acton was the holiday destination for her large extended family and many friends.
In 2003, Julie and Tom moved to Amesbury. There, Julie worked at Lahey Clinic for more than a decade before retiring.
Julie stayed active in retirement, visiting and caring for relatives and friends; traveling abroad with Tom, Jeff, and friends; and volunteering.
Effortlessly gregarious, Julie was the heart of every social occasion. Julie rarely left even the grocery store line without a new friend. Happiest when surrounded by her family and friends, Julie was beloved by many and will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her husband Thomas of Amesbury; son Jeffrey and his wife Megan of Boston; and stepdaughter Sibyl Pitcock and husband Scott, and their daughter Lucy of Portland, Maine.
Sibling survivors are brother James Carroll and his wife Denise of Juneau, Alaska; sister Mary Murphy of Newburyport; brother John Carroll and his significant other Kelly Neville of Wakefield; brother Fred Carroll and his wife Joanne of Chelmsford; and brother Edward Carroll of Seattle.
Other survivors include many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, as well as sister Johannah York of New London, New Hampshire, brother Stephen Carroll of Revere, and brother Michael Carroll.
A private family celebration of life will be held. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Our Neighbor’s Table in Amesbury. To sign the online guestbook, visit paulcrogers.com. Arrangements were made with Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Home, Amesbury.
