LGBTQ+ caucus honors Viola with first Commonwealth Pride Award
State Rep. Simon Cataldo had nominated Julie Viola, citing her work in healthcare, education, and community service.

Acton resident Julie Viola, a former Regional School Committee chair, has earned the Commonwealth Pride Award.
The Massachusetts LGBTQ+ Legislative Caucus award recognizes LGBTQ+ individuals who have made exceptional contributions to their communities and to the commonwealth.
State Rep. Simon Cataldo nominated Viola for the honor, citing her work in healthcare, education, and community service.
Viola, a healthcare marketing executive and entrepreneur, is head of marketing at Ellie Mental Health, a national network of outpatient mental health providers. She is also the founder and chief strategist of Cody Health Ventures, a consulting firm.
In addition to her professional work, Viola has held leadership roles in the community. She is president of the Friends of Emerson Health, supporting the region’s community hospital. From 2023 to 2025, she served as an elected member of the Carlisle School Committee and chaired the Acton-Carlisle Regional District School Committee.
In 2024, Viola launched the “’Wiched Generation” podcast, which features personal stories and expert perspectives for adults caring for both children and aging relatives.
“Showing up as my authentic self has always been paramount to me,” Viola said in a news release. “Being part of the LGBTQ+ community is something I am proud of, and this recognition is especially meaningful because it celebrates the value of living and leading authentically.”
Cataldo said Viola’s work has benefited residents throughout the district.
“Julie exemplifies the spirit of service and community engagement that makes our district so special,” he said. “Whether through her work expanding access to mental health care, her leadership in our public schools, or her commitment to strengthening local institutions, Julie has made a lasting impact on the 14th Middlesex.”
The inaugural Commonwealth Pride Awards ceremony was held June 17 at the State House.
