Mary J. Robbins passed away April 30, 2026, at age 75 following complications resulting from a long struggle with Crohn’s disease.
Born on August 2, 1950, Mary was the loving daughter of Frederick J. Robbins and Emma (Hooton) Robbins of Acton. Mary grew up in Acton and graduated from Acton-Carlisle High School in 1968. She attended Smith College and Colby College, majoring in sociology, followed by graduate studies at the University of Massachusetts in public health.
After her education, Mary returned to her family home in Acton, where she spent much of her adult life caring for her parents in their later years. Mary was a devoted daughter and, despite health problems of her own, focused her attention on her parents’ well-being until their passing. Mary felt blessed to be there for them and was very grateful to all the caregivers who came to the house daily, allowing her parents to remain in their home.
Mary had a generous heart and was always willing to help others where there was a need. She will be truly missed by her family and friends. Mary leaves her brother John Robbins and his wife Donna (Peterson) Robbins; and her niece Virginia Robbins and Virginia’s husband Derek Olson, all residents of Acton.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 1, at 11 a.m. at Acton Funeral Home, 74 Belknap Street. Her burial will follow in the family plot in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Care Dimensions Hospice, Suite B-102, 75 Sylvan Street, Danvers, MA 01923, caredimensions.org; or Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, 5100 Wisconsin Avenue NW, Suite 400, Washington, DC 20016-4131, pcrm.org.
