Matthew (Matty) B. Myles, 48

Matthew B. Myles

Matthew Myles, formerly of Acton, died at his home in Denver on May 27, 2025. He was 48.

Matt attended Acton schools through high school, and played youth soccer and hockey, the latter including the CCHS varsity team. He developed a passion for the outdoors early in life, and so attended the University of Colorado, spending nearly every free hour rock and ice climbing, wilderness camping, skiing, and ski instructing. He later took up whitewater rafting, and made several trips through the Grand Canyon, on the Snake and Salmon Rivers in Idaho, and on his ‘home’ river, the Arkansas.

Matt loved to share his love of the outdoors with people of all skill levels in various outdoor sports. He was an outdoor instructor and took advanced outdoor courses with the National Outdoor Leadership School — experience he employed leading deep wilderness expedition trips for teenagers in the Rocky Mountains. Those trips went well beyond teaching technical skills; Matt engaged his charges in confronting their innermost feelings as they endured the rigors of wilderness hiking and camping.

Following his undergraduate degree in psychology, Matt returned to Boston for a job at McLean Hospital, where he worked with patients afflicted with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). He returned to Colorado for graduate work at Colorado State and became certified as a licensed clinical social worker. Drawing on his McLean experience and the empathy he had gained as a wilderness leader, he established a thriving therapy practice helping OCD clients in Denver in which he often met clients in their own homes and supported them with his unique combination of humor and skill.

Matty possessed a remarkable ability to connect with people, and always had a large group of devoted friends. A deeply philosophical man, Matty loved poetry and performing music at open mics. He was known for his offbeat sense of humor and remarkable affinity for puns. He adored his Bernese Mountain Dogs, who accompanied him on his adventures and learned goofy tricks (“Upward Human,” anyone?).

Along with wonderful friends, Matty is survived by his father Mark, sister Jess and her husband Ricardo, and their children Luzia and Sebastian in Acton.
