Saying she will “always be one of [its] biggest champions,” Lisa Krassner is leaving her position as executive director of the Acton Museum at the end of July.

Krassner, who has led the museum for three years, has been named president of the Massachusetts Historical Society.

“Serving this extraordinary institution has been a tremendous privilege,” Krassner says. Citing its 250th commemorations and its many exhibitions, forums, and school programs, she adds, “Every milestone we have reached has been possible because of the shared commitment of the board, staff, and broader museum community.”

Museum Board President Claire Nelson calls Krassner’s leaving “a bittersweet moment for all of us.”

She says, “From her very first day, Lisa has led our beloved institution with vision, creativity, and deep understanding of how best to forward our mission.”

‘A prudent steward’

Nelson credits Krassner with strengthening the museum’s “well-deserved position as a local institution of national importance” and says the latter “has been a prudent steward of our finances and has helped us to bring broad visibility to the stories around April 19th, 1775, as we commemorated the 250th anniversary in meaningful and lasting ways.”

Krassner’s last day will be July 31.

The board has formed a search committee to identify its next executive director, Nelson says, adding, “We are confident that the museum’s much-deserved status as the Best Small Town Museum in the country will facilitate a productive and exciting search.”

Last winter, a USA Today 10Best Readers’ Choice Award program panel of experts nominated 20 museums, from which voters selected the top 10. The Acton Museum finished first.

“I have every confidence,” Krassner says, “that it will continue to thrive and inspire.”
