The U.S. Postal Service is commemorating the beginning of the American Revolution with a set of special stamps.

These “forever stamps” — so named because they are valid through any price increase — had a first-day-of-issue ceremony at the North Bridge Visitors Center on April 16.

The 15-stamp set, called “Battlefields of the American Revolution,” highlights five key war battles, using watercolor paintings and photography to memorialize the historical sites of Lexington and Acton, Bunker Hill, Trenton, Saratoga, and Yorktown.

“The battle of Lexington and Acton ignited outrage in Massachusetts and showed the potential of citizen soldiers, relying on local organizing and knowledge of their home terrain, to confront the highly trained and professional British military,” the USPS said in a statement.

The stamps were designed by Derry Noyes, a USPS art director, with watercolors by Greg Harlin and photos by Jon Bilous, Richard Lewis, Tom Morris, Gregory J. Parker, and Kevin Stewart, the statement said.

The stamps are available at the main post office on Walden Street while supplies last. They can also be ordered online at usps.com.
