On the heels of the weekend’s commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution’s start, a crowd of hundreds gathered Monday in front of First Parish and spilled onto Lexington Road for a rally sponsored by Acton Indivisible, Indivisible Mass Coalition, and other groups.

First Parish, the town’s meeting house in the 1770s, was where John Hancock and others devised a plan for Massachusetts to separate from British rule, setting in motion the eventual battle for independence.

Monday’s speakers included Rufus Gifford, a former ambassador to Denmark under President Barack Obama and later and former chief of protocol under President Joe Biden; Leah Greenberg, co-founder and co-executive of Indivisible; and Nikki Turpin, chair of The Robbins House.

The event featured musical performances by Boston Voices of Community and Labor and Boston Area Brigade of Activist Musicians.
