A Acton police cruiser and Lowell Regional Transit Authority bus collided Monday, scattering debris and briefly closing Laws Brook Road.

No one was injured, Police Capt. Brian Goldman told The Acton Bridge.

The crash happened near the Laws Brook intersection with Conant Street early Monday afternoon. Goldman said the cruiser was westbound on an unrelated call with its lights and sirens activated. The bus driver was headed in the same direction and trying to turn onto Conant but didn’t yield, he said.

The crash was still under investigation as Goldman left the scene, but he said he expects the bus driver will face a citation and civil charges.

Kay Aoki said she was the only passenger on the bus traveling from her Acton home to the Acton Senior Center. She said she was on her phone and initially “didn’t know what happened.”

Aoki waited at the scene with the bus driver until another bus picked them up.

Tow trucks hauled away the cruiser and the damaged LRTA “Road Runner” bus, and Laws Brook Road reopened around 1:20 p.m.

Goldman said it was good that no one got hurt. “Cruisers can be fixed,” he said.

The LRTA doesn’t currently serve Acton, but local officials have considered joining in recent months.

LRTA officials didn’t immediately respond to Bridge questions about Monday’s crash.
