Suzanne Carol Allen, 66

Suzanne Carol Allen, 66, passed on from life to Life on October 22, 2025, in Kansas City, Missouri, after a brief illness.
Born on July 2, 1959, in Kansas City, Missouri, Suzy grew up in Overland Park, Kansas, and graduated from Shawnee Mission West High School in 1977. An accomplished flutist, she began college as a music major before discovering her interest in psychology. She earned her bachelor of science in psychology from the University of Memphis in 1981, followed by a Ph.D. in psychology in 1993, and later a Ph.D. in ministry in 2013 from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio.
Suzy began her professional career in 1988 as a therapist at the Worcester Youth Guidance Center and Children’s Friend, Inc., both in Worcester. She went on to practice as a psychologist at the Attachment Institute of New England and, in 2018, joined the renowned Trauma Center in Brookline. In 2021, she opened her own private practice in Acton, where she worked until relocating to Kansas City in May 2025.
Her clinical specialties included EMDR, attachment therapy with adoptive families, and family systems therapy. Suzy was licensed to practice in Massachusetts, Missouri, and Kansas. In addition to her clinical work, she was a dedicated educator, teaching online courses in inner healing from 2013 to 2025 through the Global Awakening College of Ministry in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania.
On April 7, 1990, Suzy was married to Steven D. Allen, an architect from Acton. They made their home in Acton and were blessed with one child, Joshua Gregory, in 1998.
Suzy loved the presence of God and loved serving the people around her. She was passionate about ministry and travel, journeying with Global Awakening to Brazil, Mozambique, Cuba, Israel, Thailand, Cambodia, India, Nepal, and Taiwan — participating in both physical and spiritual healing to countless lives. In 2013, Suzy and Steve founded His Presence Christian Fellowship in Acton, where they continued their ministry of physical and spiritual healing. Their home overflowed with joy, laughter, and hospitality; twice a week, they hosted meals for their church family, where Suzy would also plan the evening worship. She was an insightful teacher and had particular interest in the miraculous works of God throughout history as well as the evolution of contemporary Christianity.
A lifelong learner and voracious reader, Suzy was known for her keen intellect and profound insight. Her son once said, while still in preschool, that he got his intelligence from his mom. She continued to share her love of music by playing flute in the pit orchestra for New Life Fine Arts productions in Acton. A devoted runner for decades, Suzy could be found on the back roads in every season — rain, snow, or shine. She especially loved visiting “The Cape,” New York City, and London, and proudly described herself as a “city girl” at heart.
Suzy was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband Steve, her son Joshua of Nashville, her brother Michael Perkins of Louisville, Colorado, and her sister Kelly Kolker of Lenexa, Kansas. She is also survived by Steve’s children, Kelly Langadinos and Zachary Allen, both of Arlington.
At Suzy’s request, cremation has taken place. A festive Celebration of Joy honoring her life will be held on Saturday, November 22, at 11 a.m. at the Harvey Wheeler Community Center, 1276 Main Street, with a reception to follow.
Those who wish to make a memorial contribution in Suzy’s honor may consider giving to the National Prion Disease Pathology Surveillance Center (NPDPSC), Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, or to Global Awakening, Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania.
