Town seeks new chief information officer

Acton’s chief information officer job is open — again — following the departure of Chief Information Officer Amalia McCaffrey for family reasons.
Officials posted the position on the town’s hiring page on June 10. Communications Manager Donna McIntosh didn’t have a timeline for the job search as of June 11.
The CIO leads the Acton Technology Department, which includes Minuteman Media Network and the GIS Division, which handles mapping. The anticipated salary range for the job is $129,126 to $154,318.
McCaffrey came to Acton as the town’s IT operations manager. Town Manager Kerry Lafleur appointed her as interim CIO last fall after Jason Bulger left the position to become Acton Municipal Light Plant director. She earned the permanent gig in February and stepped down on May 19. McCaffrey could not be reached for comment before press time.
Bulger has reprised his former role since McCaffrey’s departure, serving as interim CIO alongside his CMLP duties. (The CIO position was called chief technology officer during Bulger’s original tenure.)
McIntosh said McCaffrey’s departure, which occurred in the busy final weeks before Town Meeting, was “unexpected.” Before coming to work for the town, McCaffrey spent 26 years with the Air Force. When she publicly announced McCaffrey’s permanent appointment as CIO, Lafleur said McCaffrey had already “proven to be an invaluable asset.”
Acton “really appreciates the work that Amalia did while she was here,” McIntosh told The Acton Bridge last week.
While this change temporarily puts more on Bulger’s plate, McIntosh noted that he successfully juggled CMLP and CIO duties before McCaffrey filled the interim CIO slot in 2024.
