Giuseppe Verdi’s final farce comes to life at Opera51 this weekend with three performances of “Falstaff.”

Based on Shakespeare’s “The Merry Wives of Windsor,” Verdi’s last opera details the comic misadventures of Sir John Falstaff, a greedy, self-impressed knight who tries to woo two rich married women in hopes of improving his fortunes. His plan backfires when the women discover his scheme and team up to turn the tables, setting off a series of pranks and misunderstandings.

The production features James Liu as Falstaff, Margretta Beaty as Alice, and Ron Williams as Ford.

Opera51 is one of the resident groups at 51 Walden, which also houses the Acton Band, Acton Orchestra, and Acton Players. Productions serve as fundraisers for the upkeep of the performing arts center.

The performances are on Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets, $35, are available online at opera51.org or 51walden.org or by calling (978) 369-7911.
