With wildfire smoke pervading Acton, health director urges prudence
State officials have issued air quality alerts as conditions may be unhealthy for sensitive groups.

As smoke from Canadian wildfires drifts into Massachusetts, Acton residents concerned about air quality should consult with their doctor, town Public Health Director Melanie Dineen advises.
The region is seeing hazy skies, and state officials have issued air quality alerts as conditions may be unhealthy for sensitive groups.
Protective measures range from staying indoors to wearing a KN95 mask, but Dineen stressed communication with a healthcare provider as a prudent step.
“We want people to be aware and talking to their provider,” she said.
Check air quality at AirNow.gov before spending time outdoors.
Those at risk include:
- Children and older adults.
- People with asthma, COPD, or heart disease.
- Anyone spending extended periods outdoors.
Dineen expressed hope that elevated levels of smoke will dissipate, but “it depends on the wildfires and the prevailing winds.”
More information is available from the town’s Health Department.
