2Volunteer thanks CCHS community
Students may forget calculus, but they don’t forget helping out their community.
In 1980, The Acton-Carlisle Regional School Committee instituted a graduation requirement of 40 hours of self-recorded community service. In 2006, a group of parents formed an organization which we called 2Volunteer, and offered to help strengthen community connections, working within the existing CCHS program.
Since then, the total number of volunteer hours contributed each year by our students has risen from about 10,000 to over 30,000 hours, and our community’s non-profit organizations rely heavily on students. Many students volunteer far more hours than the required 40, so 2Volunteer instituted several types of recognitions of those extraordinary contributions through the annual Class Act Awards, which include recognitions from CCHS itself, Rotary Club of Acton, Acton Carlisle Foundation, President’s Volunteer Service Awards, Acton Recreation Department, and others.
In February 2025, 2Volunteer announced its dissolution as a registered non-profit organization, effective June 1. However, our personal commitment to community service for youth remains as strong as ever, as more than ever our students need connections to their community. It was the mission of 2Volunteer to facilitate those connections through volunteer service. That mission will continue under different leadership, but we believe that the community service program at CCHS will always be a vibrant and vital part of the broad education of our students.
The executive committee of 2Volunteer is grateful to the many CCHS administrators over the past 20 years who have supported our efforts, to the community members who have served on the 2Volunteer Committee, to the local non-profits that welcomed our students, and to CCHS students who have supported our community. Just ask any current or former student about their volunteer experiences — they may forget calculus, but they don’t forget helping out.
The current members of the executive committee of 2Volunteer are Ann Trudeau, Ann Sgarzi, and David Holdorf.
