Apply by September 19 for community preservation grants

Organizations with unfunded projects are encouraged to start thinking about Community Preservation Act applications.

This is an important reminder about the process for submitting grant applications for Community Preservation Act (CPA) funding to Acton’s Community Preservation Committee (CPC).

The Massachusetts Community Preservation Act allows cities and towns to raise funds from a real estate surcharge in order to acquire, create, and preserve open space; acquire, preserve, rehabilitate, or restore historic resources; acquire, create, preserve, and support community housing; and acquire and preserve land for recreational use.

The CPA grant application and instructions can be found on CPC’s page on the town’s website along with eligibility requirements, lists of current and past projects, and grants and other information.

Grant applications are due to the Community Preservation Committee, 141 Keyes Road, by Friday, September 19, at noon.

CPC’s funding recommendations will be considered at the 2026 Town Meeting for FY27 funding distributions in July.

Acton’s CPA funds have supported a wide range of projects including Acton 250 Trees for the 250th, Old Calf Pasture, Gerow Land, Acton Municipal Affordable Housing Trust, Robbins House, 51 Walden, and the Scout House.

The committee encourages organizations with unfunded projects to consider submitting applications by September 19. This is a good time to start thinking about CPA funding.
