Banfield the right candidate to help town navigate complex challenges
He wants the best for our town, but he knows that we must sometimes say “no,” or “not yet,” in ways that are fair and transparent.
Acton is complex. Despite the small-town feel and open space, our municipal government must deal with a wide range of complex problems and ambitious objectives. Our educated electorate has strong opinions. At the same time, the Select Board is limited in its power by a wide range of state legislation. It takes a special kind of candidate to drive change in this environment.
Dean Banfield is that candidate, and he will be that kind of Select Board member. His broad experience in municipal affairs is combined with innovative enthusiasm. His service on the Finance Committee has given him an understanding of both capital needs and financing constraints. He wants the best for our town, but he knows that we must sometimes say “no,” or “not yet,” in ways that are fair and transparent.
Dean has been a leader in shaping wise environmental strategy for Acton. He goes beyond merely advocating for climate-friendly policies to proposing, and working for, specific solutions. For example, his citizen petition at this year’s Town Meeting requires that future town building projects be designed to host solar power. He recognizes that advocacy alone is not enough. He knows how to craft specific policies and generate support to reach municipal goals.
Dean’s knowledge of Acton finance and practical problem-solving will enable the Select Board to move us through the difficult years ahead, when Acton must make and implement decisions about land use and public facilities that will influence our town for several generations. Please join me and vote for Dean Banfield.
