Garofalo returns fumble 100 yards for score, but Patriots football falls

The Acton-Carlisle football team fell, 28-16, at Algonquin on September 25 in a non-conference game highlighted by Patriots defensive end Jack Garofalo’s 100-yard fumble return for a touchdown.

  • Team record: Overall 1-2, Dual County League 0-0.
  • Turning point: The Pats’ defense secured a safety after a jumpy start to the game, but Algonquin built a comfortable lead on four touchdowns. After the Titans’ final TD of the night, Garofalo picked up a loose ball at his own goal line and took it the length of the field for a CCHS score. He kicked the extra point on his own touchdown.
  • Unsung hero: Running back Thomas Bury was a key asset on CCHS’ offense, consistently fighting through the Algonquin line and running for a 46-yard touchdown early in the second quarter.
  • Up next: The Patriots were to host Bedford at 7 p.m. October 2 for their first league game of the season.
