Field hockey posts pair of shutouts
The C-C team disarmed Westford and Wayland with steady offense and the defense’s fourth and fifth shutouts of the season.

The Acton-Carlisle field hockey team disarmed host Wayland with steady offense and the defense’s fifth shutout of the season in a 3-0 victory on October 16.

- Team record: Overall 8-2-2; Dual County League 4-2-1
- Big games: Julia Reynolds scored the first goal with a pinpoint tip off an Abby Ruhmann rocket. Bridget Fivek struck second with a dazzling 16-yard drive, and Ceci Clancy launched the final goal through dense traffic into the lower corner.
- Turning point: In the second quarter, the Wayland defense dug in hoping to hold Acton’s lead to 1-0, but Fivek made it 2-0 at the first-half buzzer, shifting morale decisively to CCHS.
- Unsung heroes: Stifling the Warriors’ offensive forays were Reynolds at low-mid; defenders co-captain Zoë Bonzagni, Emerson Ambrose, Maddie Minkin, and Caroline Connolly; and goalie Lexie Ramirez. Lindsay Cain was dynamic from beginning to end, back to front.
- Up next: The Patriots were to return to Memorial Field for a rematch with league rival Acton-Boxborough on October 19.

CCHS 6, Westford Academy 0
CCHS chased the Ghosts off a misty Memorial Field with relentless and productive offense on October 13.

- Big games: The goalscorers were Fivek, Ruhmann, Skyla Rigazio, Cain with two, and co-captain Ally Couto. Ruhmann’s goal was an eye-popping (and nearly net-popping) reverse drive into the upper right corner.
- Turning point: It was a scoreless tussle for 10 minutes until Couto flicked a deft goal off a drive by Clancy; from there on, the goals kept coming.
- Unsung heroes: The defensive line, led by Bonzagni, partnered with a dynamic midfield to deny Westford even a single shot on goal.
