Acton needs ‘respectful dialogue’ about heartrending global conflicts
I was very heartened to read Edward Garmey’s recent letter, headlined, “Honor all victims of Mideast violence.” It took courage to express his opinion, and I truly appreciate his empathy and respectful dialogue.
As an Arab American, every time I pass the field of Israeli flags, a de facto public display, it serves as a cruel reminder of the ongoing carnage, violence, and famine in Gaza, the flags appearing to support the actions of that state.
I respect the right of the homeowners to display their flags and the rationale behind it. However, given its very public presence, the community deserves to express its reaction to it, and to the other meanings it has come to represent.
