Acton’s bike to school days get kids off to a healthy start
Sudents and families are invited to join this year’s International Bike, Walk & Roll to School Days, beginning October 7.
Acton students and families are invited to join neighbors and school communities for this year’s International Bike, Walk & Roll to School Days. These events offer a fun and active way to begin the school day while encouraging healthy habits, reducing traffic around our schools, and strengthening connections within the community.
This year’s schedule includes:
- Wednesday, October 7: Thoreau School & Acton Middle School
- Friday, October 9: Acton-Carlisle High School
- Tuesday, October 13: Alcott School
- Wednesday, October 14: Willard School
At the elementary and middle schools, students and families will have the opportunity to travel together in organized groups led by parent volunteers, with support from members of the Acton Police Department. Parents are encouraged to walk or ride alongside their children, as this is not a drop-off event. Families should check with their school’s PTG or principal for meeting locations and start times.
The high school event will have a more independent format. Students are encouraged to walk, bike, or roll to campus with friends or on their own, with additional support from the Acton Police Department at key crossings around campus to help students safely navigate their arrival.
Whether you’re walking, scooting, or biking, this is a wonderful opportunity to get some fresh air, connect with friends, and start the school day energized and ready to learn. Research shows that physical activity before school helps improve focus, mood, and overall well-being in students. Even better, biking or walking to school reduces traffic congestion and cuts down on harmful emissions, making Acton a greener, healthier place for everyone.
Mark your calendar, get ready to roll, and join us this October for International Bike, Walk & Roll to School Days.
