Dean Banfield announces run for open seat on Select Board
I feel the town is facing some significant challenges and I’m willing to roll up my sleeves and tackle thorny problems.
I am announcing my candidacy for the open seat on the Select Board.
I am standing for election because I feel the town is facing some significant challenges and I’m willing to roll up my sleeves and tackle thorny problems. I am retired, but in my professional career in software development, I found that by gaining a detailed understanding of problems and mixing creativity with the resources available, great things are possible.
Collaborative work is fundamental to an effective Select Board, but that collaboration also benefits from a set of strong individual voices when setting policy and establishing a direction for the town. Those who know me know that I am not reluctant to offer my view, but I’m also able to listen and seek consensus in a committee context.
Our family has lived in Acton for 30 years, our children attended the public schools, and I’ve cultivated my commitment to community service through committee work. I have served on the NRC, the CPC, the FinCom (chair 2020), and most recently as chair of the Solar Task Force. I have brought two successful citizen petition warrant articles to Town Meeting, and last year I served as deputy moderator. I participated in the writing of the Acton Open Space and Recreation Plan of 2015, a 10-year action plan for maintaining and enhancing our natural and recreational resources. Before it decamped to Maynard, I worked as a head chef for Open Table.
These experiences demonstrate my commitment to Acton, as well as my capacity to engage thoughtfully with both detailed and strategic issues that will come before the Select Board for consideration.
I look forward to serving Acton on the Select Board and ask for your support in the March 31 town election. Thank you.
