Dean Banfield’s demonstrated leadership is vital to addressing town’s major issues

We have concluded that Dean Banfield has the proven experience in town decision-making that is necessary at this critical time.

We are fortunate to have two candidates for the Select Board seat, generating interest in town governance and attention to the major issues and decisions before the town. While both candidates are sincerely dedicated to Acton, we have concluded that Dean Banfield has the proven experience in town decision-making that is necessary at this critical time.

The significance of the decisions before Acton and our Select Board in the coming months cannot be overstated. We have incurred sizable debt in recent years that must be factored into our planning. We have unmet major capital needs (public safety and public works) that require practical solutions we can afford. Our efforts to be a welcoming community require sustained and creative work. Our environmental goals, housing needs, and land use opportunities require innovation and forward thinking.

Dean has demonstrated, through his prior service on boards and committees, that he is well informed and thus prepared for Acton’s most demanding leadership role. Further, his work with Open Table convinces us that he cares deeply about individuals in our town, and that he is willing to use his skills as a manager and a relationship-builder to get things done right, with an open heart.

Will the Select Board race attract new voters and a new generation that will seek out opportunities to volunteer in our citizen-centered local government? Dozens of town committees need continued community involvement. Volunteering on those committees is perhaps the best way to understand town decision-making and the complex factors that town leaders must reckon with. Voting, and continued civic engagement, are our shared responsibility.

Please join us in supporting Dean Banfield at the polls. Together we can move Acton forward.
