Don’t vote to rush Newbury Court proposal

Key concerns about traffic, safety, environment, and neighborhood character have not been thoroughly addressed.

Newbury Court is proposing a zoning change that could significantly impact our community — but this decision is being rushed. The vote will take place at Town Meeting, yet key concerns about traffic, safety, environment, and neighborhood character have not been thoroughly addressed.

This proposal was not coordinated with the town’s Planning Board — it is a citizen’s petition that bypasses the usual planning process. Without proper evaluation, the long-term consequences for our town remain uncertain.

Current Newbury Court residents: We ask you to consider how this decision affects your neighbors on Old Marlboro Road and the larger community. Think back to when you were a homeowner in this area — how would you feel if corporate interests took precedence over individual families?

Did you know that before any public discussion, Newbury Court/New England Deaconess had already reached an agreement with the Acton Country Club? While concerns about the golf course were privately negotiated, the “open space” protections favor the golf course’s side of the property — not the residents along Old Marlboro Road.

Voting “no” does not mean rejecting expansion altogether; it ensures that we take the necessary time to plan responsibly. A project of this scale should respect Acton’s values — providing more care options for our aging loved ones while preserving our town’s natural beauty, historic charm, and quality of life.

We do need to support senior housing and healthcare services. Let’s ensure that growth is done the right way — with careful planning, transparency, and consideration for all. Vote “no” to pause the expansion and protect Acton’s future.
