Doug White Fields debut new turf as fall sports get underway

Acton’s athletes of all ages are starting a new season on new turf at Acton-Carlisle High School.
A replacement project at the Doug White Fields wrapped up last month — just in time for fall sports. Town officials announced the milestone in a statement and, in an update to the Select Board, Town Manager Kerry Lafleur hailed the success.
“The facility is beautiful,” she said.

The town manages the artificial turf fields through overlapping agreements with CCHS and the nonprofit Friends of Acton-Carlisle Playing Fields. The FCCPF paid the $1.49 million cost of replacing the turf this summer after heading off a bid from advocates last year to ditch the synthetic option and go with a grass replacement.
Officials lauded crews for completing the project despite “very hot weather,” and Lafleur said the success “is a testament to the collaborative spirit of the Acton community.”
Numerous sports teams use the Doug White Fields. CCHS sports schedules showed several events scheduled as the school year got underway last week.
