Falling behind early, the Acton-Carlisle boys soccer team suffered its first loss of the season, 2-0, to a speedy, energized Waltham squad on October 8.

  • Team record: Overall 8-1-1; Dual County League 3-1-1
  • Turning point: At the five-minute mark, Waltham crossed the ball from a free kick. The ball caromed in front of the goal before ricocheting over the goal line. Despite an increase in intensity and urgency in the second half, the Patriots never tallied the equalizer. Waltham scored on a penalty kick in the middle of the second half.
  • Unsung hero: Playing at his normal fullback position, Sam Keener played strong defense against the top attackers. He also surged forward regularly, providing a link between the defensive and attacking lines.
  • Up next: After a tough stretch of four games in eight days, the Pats got a few days of rest before they were to host Newton South on October 13.

CCHS 2, Bromfield 0

Matan Yosefson and Rayan Boutrig scored goals in the first and second half, respectively, to power the Patriots to a road win on October 6.

  • Big game: CCHS’ defense continued to shine, holding their opponents scoreless for the fourth consecutive game. Keener regularly turned away Bromfield attacks from his left back position, and Peter Brown returned after missing a game with a sprained wrist to contribute in central defense. Conceding only seven shots toward their own net, the Patriots generated 14 shots and forced five saves by Bromfield’s goalkeeper.
  • Unsung heroes: Max Hepworth assisted on both CCHS goals, and Adrian Avini provided a spark at wing, darting between defenders and initiating multiple attacks.
