Friends thank community for successful book sale
This massive one-day effort, the largest all-volunteer event in Acton, doesn’t happen by magic.
On behalf of the Friends of the Acton Free Public Library, thank you, Acton. Our Annual Book Sale returned on June 14, bringing with it all the joy, generosity, and community spirit that make this tradition so special. This sale is a beloved event for residents and visitors alike including readers of all ages, from every corner of New England and beyond (Californians and Texans enthusiastically purchased books) converging for a celebration of books, connection, and shared purpose.
Even with rain, we still had a fantastic turnout, with customers ranging from age 2 to 88, complete with curious readers, enthusiastic collectors, and browsing “No Kings!” parade-goers. They helped us raise almost $33,000 to support the library’s many programs: museum passes, concerts, poetry readings, author talks, theatrical performances, and staff professional development, for example.
This massive one-day effort, the largest all-volunteer event in Acton, doesn’t happen by magic. It takes a full year of planning and many hundreds of volunteer hours. To our dedicated team of book sorters and organizers: You are the unsung heroes behind the scenes. A huge shout-out to the Book Sale Committee for orchestrating with energy and heart, and the library staff for their support. To the tireless volunteers (including our partners at the National Charity League and Boy Scouts) who arrived at dawn to lift, stack, haul, and help: thank you!
We’re deeply grateful to our community for donating an extraordinary selection of high-quality books, and we couldn’t do this without our incredible local businesses. Thank you to our longstanding supporters and to Revolutionary Acton, new this year, for your in-kind donations and logistical muscle. You helped turn a mountain of books into a joyful day for all.
The Friends welcome you as we continue to support our truly fantastic Library.
