Help Concord250 care for the town’s new trees

We can all play a role in helping these trees thrive by keeping them free of garbage and dog waste and refraining from using them as bike racks.

Have you noticed the red, white, and blue Concord250 stickers popping up on newly planted trees?

These are a part of the Concord250 Permanent Memorial Subcommittee’s “250 Trees for the 250th” initiative. You have voiced your support for this project, and we hope that all Concordians will welcome and care for these valuable new members of our community for years to come.

There are many challenges in selecting a site for a public tree. Overhead wires, underground utilities, and which species can best adapt to harsh streetscape conditions all must be considered.

Our tree warden and volunteers have worked diligently to identify locations where the trees are most needed and likely to survive. While some smaller, flowering trees were chosen, the majority are shade trees that will help cool our community as the climate continues to warm and will provide habitat for pollinator species.

We can all play a role in helping these trees thrive by keeping them free of garbage and dog waste and refraining from using them as bike racks.

Many of the trees have been planted at schools. Parents, please point these out to your children and let them know that these trees have been planted with hope for their generation.

We recognize that these 250 Commemorative trees are just a drop in the bucket of Acton’s overall tree canopy, especially as our canopy is ever dwindling. This summer, hundreds of trees were cleared from a site in West Acton to make way for a new housing development. We hope that Acton residents will be inspired by the 250 trees to make their own contributions to our suburban canopy on private properties.

Let’s continue to invest in Acton’s trees and not take for granted what we have.
