Heritage Trail signs are ‘next logical step’
Most people would agree that our town has a unique history. Why not share a more textured and complete story?
Recently The Robbins House had a wonderful anniversary party, which I attended, and I was reminded once again of what a treasure it is. As I listened to the enriched history of our town, I thought about the proposed Black Heritage Trail signage — clearly it’s the next logical step.
Most people would agree that our town has a unique history. It holds a special place in our country’s birth as well as its intellectual and literary history. But why not share a more textured and complete story? Why not now also include those voices, those stories, largely ignored, that helped shape and enrich our collective history?
Isn’t the sharing of a full and rich history somewhat akin to a complex musical performance, say a chorale, for instance? It’s not one voice; it is many. Each voice brings its own experience and emotion. Each section sings its own notes, and all voices join in to produce depth and harmony. Collectively we are much richer and multidimensional when all voices are heard.
People come from all corners of the globe to learn our history. Do we want them to hear merely a soloist or a full-bodied ensemble? Please support the BHT signs.
