Hiersteiner builds authentic relationships by listening and responding with purpose
Sam doesn’t just hear people — he responds (sometimes with a fresh loaf of bread), acts with purpose, and follows through.
We have known Sam Hiersteiner and his family for five years as we’ve raised our families here in Acton. Nat co-coached alongside Sam for many seasons, standing beside him as he led the girls in their cheer before every soccer game: “Be Safe, Be Kind, and Have Fun.” Game after game, season after season, it wasn’t just something he said — it was something he modeled.
Whether cooking, hosting friends, or advocating for what’s best for our town as we honor our history and shape what comes next, Sam puts his heart and passion into everything he does.
What stands out most about Sam is his gift for building authentic relationships. He listens with intention and cares deeply about others. Whether it’s an offhand comment about an affinity for sourdough or a thoughtful reflection on our schools, Sam doesn’t just hear people — he responds (sometimes with a fresh loaf of bread), acts with purpose, and follows through.
With three children ages 10 and under and years of service on the board of Gaining Ground, Sam has long prioritized social impact and giving back to the community that sustains families like his own. This isn’t a résumé builder — it’s who he is, guided by a deep belief that civic engagement is our responsibility to the community that gives us so much.
“Be Safe, Be Kind, and Have Fun” isn’t just what Sam tells the Orange Seals and Mighty Cardinals before they take the field — it reflects the kind of leadership he brings to our town. Creating spaces where people feel safe. Leading with kindness. And remembering that even serious work can be grounded in joy and shared purpose.
We hope you’ll join us in supporting Sam Hiersteiner for Select Board.
