Join our May 4 forum on arts/business alliances
Arts and culture, combined with the business sector, create the foundation for Acton’s economic vitality.
Arts and culture are not just part of Acton’s identity — they are a powerful economic engine. Combined with the business sector, they create the foundation for Acton’s economic vitality. Across Massachusetts, the arts and cultural sector generates nearly $29 billion in economic activity and supports more than 130,000 jobs. Nationally, it accounts for over 4% of GDP — comparable in size to the construction industry.
In Acton, that impact is visible in our daily lives. From the Acton Museum to the Umbrella Arts Center, from galleries and studios to performance spaces and historic sites, our creative sector draws visitors, supports local businesses, and enriches the community. Acton’s two designated cultural districts further harness these assets, using arts and culture as a catalyst for economic vitality. Yet too often, our arts and business communities operate in parallel rather than in partnership. Strengthening those connections represents a significant opportunity — not just culturally, but economically.
On Monday, May 4, the Town of Acton’s Economic Vitality Committee will host a facilitated forum to bring together artists, creative organizations, business owners, and community advocates. The goal is to move beyond conversation and identify practical, near-term ways to collaborate — whether through cross-promotion, shared resources, or coordinated efforts that benefit both sectors.
Attendance is free, but space is limited and registration is required to ensure a balanced mix of perspectives. To learn more and register, visit: tinyurl.com/Acton-Arts-Forum. By working together, Acton’s arts and business communities can build on an already strong foundation to create a more connected, vibrant, and resilient local economy.
