Join our open discussion on how to respond to hateful incidents
Together, we can take meaningful action to foster respect, deepen understanding, and build unity in Acton and beyond.
Please join the League of Women Voters of Acton-Carlisle on September 18, from 5:30-7:30 p.m., at the Acton Free Public Library’s Goodwin Forum, for an evening of learning and dialogue on understanding and addressing hate in our community.
Topics include recognizing hate incidents, understanding antisemitism, and how to respond when we witness acts of hate. Together, we can take meaningful action to foster respect, deepen understanding, and build unity in Acton and beyond.
The forum will open with four guiding questions, each explored by community leaders and experts:
- What is a hate incident?
- How do we respond to a hate incident?
- What is antisemitism?
- How do we respond when we see it?
Panelists include members of the Acton Select Board, DEI Commission, and School Committee, faith leaders, state government leadership, and more. A complete list of panelists will be available on the LWVCC website. Diane Proctor, chair of the LWVCC Town Government Committee, will moderate the forum. After the panel conversation, the program will continue with time for community comments, questions, and open dialogue.
Please note that this forum is intended to be a respectful and safe space for dialogue on the recent incidents of hate and antisemitism in our community and schools. Civility should be the norm as we come together to listen with honesty and courtesy, to learn from one another. Police Chief Tom Mulcahy and Thor (comfort K-9) will also be in attendance.
The program will also be available via Zoom. Visit lwvcc.org for more information.
