This film documents a fascinating story. In the remote Himalayas, a young, spirited girl’s journey unfolds over 12 years from once being among the most troubled children at Jhamtse Gatsal Children’s Community. Shaped by love, loss, and the radical compassion of her teacher, Lobsang Phuntsok, a former Buddhist monk turned community-builder, Tashi’s story evolves from one of despair into a universal portrait of resilience and transformation.
This showing celebrates the 25th anniversary of Lobsang’s starting to teach Buddhism here at First Parish in Acton. He told us in the beginning that we needed to learn loving compassion before we could learn to meditate. With the support of this community, he went on to found a school for orphans in northwest India, where Tashi arrived.
“Loving Karma,” this outstanding message about loving compassion from the Acton Buddhist group’s spiritual director, Lobsang, is relevant for our times. It will be shown on Saturday, January 31, at 7 p.m. in the First Parish (Unitarian Universalist) sanctuary in Acton, and on Zoom at bit.ly/4pCZM0p. Lobsang will answer questions via Zoom after the showing.
