Let’s build on the success of our local bike events

As we celebrate these successes, let’s carry this momentum forward by rethinking our daily travel habits.

I would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Phil Posner, the Fowler Library, and Mothers Out Front for organizing such a successful and fun Acton Family Bike Festival. Their enthusiasm and dedication created a vibrant community event celebrating biking, sustainability, and outdoor fun for families of all ages.

I’d also like to recognize the outstanding success of the recent Bike to School Days at both Acton Middle School and Thoreau School. It was inspiring to see more than 100 students starting their day with healthy, active transportation. These events would not have been possible without the tireless efforts of school staff, the Parent Teacher Group, and parents who helped coordinate the rides.

A special thank you is due to the Acton Police Department for their support at key crossings. Their presence ensured student safety and exemplified the value of strong partnerships between our community and local law enforcement.

As we celebrate these successes, let’s carry this momentum forward by rethinking our daily travel habits. Walking or biking — especially for short trips — can make a big difference. Most car trips are under three miles. If every Acton household replaced just one weekly car errand with a bike ride, it could reduce carbon emissions by over 500 metric tons annually. That’s equivalent to the carbon captured by 500 acres of forest or removing over 100 cars from our roads.

Events like these show what we can accomplish when we come together with a shared purpose. Thank you again to everyone who made it possible — let’s keep pedaling forward.
