Local Democrats invite all for civic discourse
A healthy democracy depends upon open dialogue, intellectual curiosity, and mutual respect.
As our nation celebrates the 250th anniversary of its founding, following Acton’s own semiquincentennial commemoration last year, we are reminded of the enduring principles upon which our republic was established: the freedom to determine our own course, the right of every citizen to participate in self-government, and the conviction that all are created equal.
In that spirit, the Acton Democratic Town Committee extends an invitation to all. Regardless of age, background, length of residence, or political persuasion, we welcome those who wish to engage in thoughtful civic discourse.
We are proud to represent the Democratic Party and the principles for which it stands, while recognizing that a healthy democracy depends upon open dialogue, intellectual curiosity, and mutual respect.
We aspire to be a broad tent where differing viewpoints may be expressed civilly, questions asked honestly, and ideas considered on their merits. Whether you identify as progressive, liberal, moderate, independent, or conservative, you are welcome to attend our meetings and participate in the conversation.
Our meetings provide an opportunity for elected officials to report on their work and for residents to engage directly with those who represent them. Over the past year we have been privileged to host state Sen. Mike Barrett, state Reps. Simon Cataldo and Carmine Gentile, Governor’s Councillor Mara Dolan, Rep. Seth Moulton, Massachusetts Democratic Party Chair Steve Kerrigan, and representatives from the offices of both of Massachusetts’ United States senators, as well as candidates seeking office.
The work of democracy is never complete. It depends upon an informed, engaged, and welcoming community. We hope you will join us.
