Make the most of a valuable right-of-way

Recent decisions have left us with an underused asset with dangerously narrow passage and restricted lines of sight in many places.

The Acton town transportation plan cites pedestrian and cycling routes between Acton Center and West Acton as a priority. The Reformatory Branch Trail right-of-way connects directly to the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail yet is not shown on the transportation planning map beyond Lowell Road.

The consultants at a public meeting held on Keyes Avenue expressed no knowledge to me of the right-of-way beyond Lowell Road. The only idea mentioned is to not pave the trail. This combined with a Town Meeting article to restrict all tree cutting on the trail has left us with an underused asset with dangerously narrow passage and restricted lines of sight in many places.

Let’s put this asset to work. Make the existing portion safe to traverse while the planning begins to rebuild an important transportation link.
