Memorial Field bathrooms long overdue
We have deep concern about a possible effort to remove the CCHS ADA-compliant bathroom project from CPC grant allocations.
On behalf of the Acton-Carlisle Youth Soccer Board of Directors, I want to express our support for the ADA-compliant bathroom project at CCHS’ Memorial Field.
ADA-compliant bathrooms are long overdue and a necessity. We’ve used porta-potties at Memorial Field for 10 years, which is embarrassing and exposes the town and the school district to unnecessary legal risk. Along with providing accessibility for individuals with disabilities or mobility challenges, this project better meets the needs of elderly residents and young women who deserve safe and appropriate facilities.
Importantly, this project has responsible funding, utilizing CPC funds to ensure that taxpayers are not additionally burdened, a critical consideration in today’s fiscal climate.
So we have deep concern about a possible effort to remove the CCHS ADA-compliant bathroom project from Community Preservation Committee (CPC) grant allocations. This proposal to remove the project from the grant allocations undermines our town’s stated values and our responsibility to provide equitable access for all, and it potentially threatens a responsible funding pathway that allows Acton to meet its obligations without increasing taxpayer burden.
Therefore, we do not support the removal of the CCHS bathrooms at Town Meeting from the CPC grant allocation.
