Newbury Court a ‘lifeline’ for families: Vote ‘yes’ on facilitating its expansion

The sense of dignity, compassion, and commitment to living life fully is palpable in everything the community offers.

Our family had the privilege of becoming an “extended” member of the Newbury Court community over the past five years. When my dad relocated from Cape Cod to Newbury Court just before the onset of Covid, my husband and I were in the midst of managing life with our three school-age children. It was then that I began to fully understand the weight of being part of the “sandwich generation”: those of us in our 30s, 40s, and 50s who are simultaneously raising our children and caring for our aging parents.

Newbury Court became a second family to us during this both exciting and challenging period. Over the past five years, our family benefited tremendously from Newbury Court’s community while also experiencing almost every stage of care offered — from an activity-filled independent living, to around-the-clock aides in his apartment, to our father’s move to Rivercrest, the skilled nursing wing, and finally to hospice care. Throughout it all, Newbury Court provided invaluable support, not only enhancing my father’s quality of life, but also enriching the lives of our entire family. The sense of dignity, compassion, and commitment to living life fully is palpable in everything the community offers.

What many may not realize is that Newbury Court is a non-profit organization. Its mission goes beyond just providing care; it fosters a vibrant, active, caring community for people of all ages. For families like mine, it has been a lifeline — a place where all generations come together, supported by a team that truly understands the complexities of life’s stages. Newbury Court is hoping to expand its blueprint in our community, and what a gift that could be to all of us.

Please consider voting “yes” at the upcoming Town Meeting on the rezoning warrant article.
