Plaudits for our ‘truly exceptional’ schools

Living in Acton (and across Acton-Carlisle), we have much to appreciate, especially when it comes to our public schools.

As the holiday season approaches, it’s a natural time to pause and reflect on what we’re grateful for. Living in Acton (and across Acton-Carlisle), we have much to appreciate, especially when it comes to our public schools.

Acton and Acton-Carlisle public schools are truly exceptional. We consistently deliver some of the strongest academic outcomes in the commonwealth, while setting responsible, transparent budgets that support educational excellence and reflect our shared values, including diversity, equity, and inclusion. That combination does not happen by accident.

At the heart of this success are our teachers, administrators, and students. I genuinely believe we have some of the best K-12 educators anywhere. They are hardworking, caring, and deeply committed to putting students first: academically, socially, and emotionally. As parents, it’s hard to ask for more.

As a School Committee chair, I have the privilege of working closely with Dr. Laurie Hunter and her administrative team. They are true professionals, and I am deeply grateful that they have chosen to do this work here. From curriculum development and grant writing, to thoughtful financial stewardship and day-to-day school leadership, their dedication and competence are extraordinary.

Of course, our work is never done. We have equity gaps to close. We continue to confront antisemitism and other forms of hate in our schools and community. We are always challenging ourselves to improve our curriculum and innovate in meaningful ways. Our schools are dynamic by design, and they should never be “good enough.”

Still, this season, I feel immense gratitude for all that goes into making our schools what they are.

To learn more about what the School Committee is working on, I encourage you to join us at an upcoming meeting. Thank you, and happy holidays.
